HUMPHRIES

From the very beginning, Ashley knew this project would be special. Designed for NFL player DJ Humphries and his wife Briyana, this luxury remodel in Arizona quickly became one of her favorite transformations to date. Originally purchased as a builder spec intended for short-term rental use, the home had impressive bones, but the scale and layout didn’t reflect the lifestyle or needs of a family seeking beauty, comfort, and long-term functionality.

Ashley reimagined the entire layout, starting with a brand new Primary Suite wing that brought the heart of the home to life. This custom addition included a spacious bedroom with soaring ceilings, his and her closets, dual bathrooms, and walnut cabinetry flanking each window wall. Every square inch was tailored for ease and elegance.

In the Primary Bathroom, bold design took center stage. Large-format glossy black porcelain tile wraps the floors and walls in moody sophistication, while matte black plumbing fixtures and body sprays were customized to his and her heights. A pair of floating walnut vanities with LED under-lighting and anti-fog LED mirrors flank the tub, illuminated by a sculptural modern light fixture. His and her closets were tailored to each client’s taste, down to the last detail.

To solve for privacy and functionality, Ashley introduced a floor-to-ceiling walnut partition wall, designed with a square grid detail that continues across the bed wall, creating a seamless visual moment that doubles as a headboard and TV wall. It’s a stunning focal point and a testament to how thoughtful design can solve spatial challenges with beauty. Overhead, tongue and groove ceiling planks pair with client-requested steel rafters, bringing texture and strength to the expansive space.

In the children’s wing, Ashley brought story and personality into every room. The previous Primary Suite was reimagined into two children’s bedrooms with a shared Jack and Jill Bathroom, now home to a freestanding tub, walk-in shower, and coordinating wall treatments in wood-look tile and geometric detail. One vanity, in particular, featured ribbed triangle fronts, a quiet nod to the family’s son who once had an affinity for shapes, especially triangles. This detail was one of many personal touches Ashley thoughtfully wove into the design.

With the loft removed to raise ceiling heights in the Kitchen and Dining Room, Ashley was able to completely rethink the layout, installing taller upper cabinets, custom appliance lifts, and a vertical floating chandelier that draws the eye up to newly installed beams painted in deep black. The pantry became its own design moment, featuring walnut cabinetry, stacked black zellige backsplash, LED lighting, and a striking triangle-pattern tile on the floor that echoes a subtle theme carried throughout the home.

Their younger son’s sports-themed bedroom included a full football field feature wall, complete with turf, “Team” and “Humphries” lettering, and custom graphics. It’s playful yet elevated, exactly what this space called for.

The daughter’s bathroom was a soft, feminine retreat with pearl and marble mosaic tile climbing from the vanity wall into the shower. A petite floating bench, Visual Comfort brass sconces, and a shield-style mirror added warmth and grace to the brass Kohler fixtures.

The Laundry Room, one of Ashley’s favorite spaces in the home, was transformed into a sleek, functional showpiece. Both sides of the room mirror each other, one housing the washer and dryer, the other closed cabinetry. Each side features a central hooded shelving detail with integrated LED lighting, walnut-backed glass uppers, and black wood-grain cabinetry with matching counters and backsplash. The design is streamlined and stunning.

Finally, the exterior was completely reimagined. Fresh paint, new pavers, wall sconces, custom landscaping, and updated pool tile brought the home’s curb appeal in line with the luxury within.
